On February 7th, 2024 Ross High School hosted a senior night for girl’s basketball to celebrate them and their accomplishments. There were 3 seniors, Annslee White, Jaice Neumaier, and Myah Boze. They have played basketball at Ross with Coach Buehner and Coach Lipps for 3 years.
Annslee White, center and No. 40, helped her team by dominating down low on the block and hustling up and down the court to get back on defense. White is a leader and helped out girls on JV trying to get them ready for the next level.
No. 4, Jaice Neumaier was a guard who took her job very seriously. She paid attention in practice and knew her role on the team and what it took to be on varsity. Neumaier also plays soccer and is going to college at Siena Heights University on a scholarship.
Myah Boze No. 23, guard helped the varsity team out by using her speed and long arms to steal balls on defense and sprint down the court ready to get the ball and go up for a layup assisted by one of her teammates.
These girls had many emotions during senior night and leading up to it. When White was asked what her feelings and emotions were during senior night, she stated,“I had many emotions throughout the week. I felt upset and didn’t want to think about the fact that it was coming up. However, once the day came it didn’t it didn’t seem to bother me all that much. It felt like just another game. During the game, it was more emotional.” Seniors go through a whirlwind of emotions during their last year of high school and that was shown by White.
RHS girls basketball saw the most support ever on senior night with their family and friends coming. The seniors were escorted by their families. Boze stated,“My grandparents, sisters, and mom came.” The families of the Seniors were there for them through the ups and downs of their careers and had their backs through thick and thin.
Coaches play a big part in an athlete’s career and how they perform. They are the foundation of a team and help their players grow. Coach Buehner and Coach Lipps are the varsity coaches at Ross High School and have helped the players tremendously. White had a few words to say on her coach’s impact,“They have shown me that it’s alright to make mistakes as long as you learn from them and do better. They’ve taught me that I shouldn’t let things get to me easily and to let harder moments just roll off my back.”
Neumaier was also asked about the impact the coaches had on how she played and she stated,“Bobby’s impact on me playing taught me to zone out others and Buehner has taught me to keep going and never give up and taught me how to play defense properly.”
Another big part of a team and how players will perform is the support from their friends. Each senior was asked what friends they had made throughout their basketball careers. White responded with,“Throughout my career, I’ve made many close friends during basketball. Veronica was the first upperclassman to talk to and include me during my freshman year so we got pretty close. I also got close with Dana, Liv, and Anna. My senior year I talked to many of the freshmen and I got pretty close with Brianna and Ally and somewhat closer with Carmen and Sierra.”
Neumaier stated,“Some close friends I have made playing basketball were Mya Montgomery, Carmen Bosse, and Lanie Lipps.” These girls have gone on many Starbucks runs before games and clicked when they first met.
Boze has found many friends through basketball including Juniors Caroline Chernock and Lanie Lipps, Neumaier, and Sophomores Carmen Bosse and Kelis Egodataye. These girls have gotten so close with each other and helped each other grow, not only as teammates but as players.
