On Tuesday, Nov. 5, polls will open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. to allow registered Ohio voters to elect their 2024 Ohio Senate representatives. Republican representatives up for ballot this year include Ohio’s Secretary of State Frank LaRose, State Senator Matt Dolan, and Ohio businessman Bernie Moreno while Democratic representatives only include U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Before voting, citizens must have registered to vote by Monday, Oct. 7, but since this due date has already passed, anyone wanting to register will have to wait for the next election. Voter registration can be filled out online, by mail, or in person, and will be eligible for the general election if files were completed and submitted by the due date previously mentioned.
Voters are also encouraged to do their research on the different representatives prior to the election day. Citizens should cast a vote for the representative whose policies they support the most; uneducated voting can throw off an election’s final results.
According to Michelle Tuccitto Sullo’s article How to Vote in Ohio’s 2024 Elections, if registering online, first enter Ohio’s voter registration portal. Citizens require their Ohio driver’s license and the last four digits of their Social Security number to successfully fill in any information requested. To register by mail, voters may download and print a form, or they may request or pick up a form from Ohio’s Secretary of State office. A citizen only needs to fill out the form and return it by the due date. A citizen will be eligible to vote once any of these processes are completed.
At the polls, voters must show a valid form of photo identification. Documentation such as social security cards or paychecks are no longer eligible. An absentee ballot must be submitted no later than four days past the election date, but the ballot must have been postmarked the day before the election.
Citizens must not be late for the polls or their vote cast will not be counted. As mentioned earlier, polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and as long as a voter enters the line before the polls close, their vote will be counted. Get excited for this upcoming election as the date is moving up quickly.
