Dec. 25 is perhaps the most well-known holiday of the month. But what about the other December-esque holidays? Well, here are a few dates that are often overlooked.
Dec. 1, is the first Sunday and the beginning of the Advent season.
Dec. 7 is National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, celebrating the lives of those lost during the Pearl Harbor attacks. Dec. 15 is Bill of Rights Day, which celebrates the ratification of the first 10 amendments.
Dec. 21 is the Winter Solstice when the hemisphere is tilted as far away from the sun as possible. It’s also known for being the shortest day of the year. Dec. 25 is Christmas Day, and it marks the beginning of Hanukkah which lasts eight days.
Dec. 26 is National Boxing Day, which is traditionally a day to give gifts to servants and the poor.
And of course, Dec. 31 is the last day of the year as well as New Year’s Eve. The day the ball drops and people make promises they can’t keep.
