The following piece varies from a typical article format. I hope you enjoy!
When I was little, I watched the enchanting Pentatonix Christmas videos on YouTube with my family. Two of my favorites were “Mary Did You Know?” and “Winter Wonderland/Don’t Worry Be Happy” with Tori Kelly. The 2014 collage of singers on a icy blue background with Tori’s heavenly ease through her high, clear runs was always a fun watch. And to this day, I love to steal their little phrase, “winter wonderland,” to describe the beautiful, pure white landscape that clothes the earth every winter.
You probably know the feeling. You wake up, peer out the window or are caught by surprise when you glance through a glass door – and there, spread broad and sparkling before you, is snow. When I was little, snow meant fresh footprints, icy noses, exhaustingly exhilarating sled rides, and hot chocolate, with marshmallows if we were lucky! Of course, myself and others “dream of a white Christmas,” and of course, our Cincinnati weather doesn’t usually deliver. That won’t stop me from hoping for a Christmas blanket of snow!
Whether we have a white Christmas or it doesn’t snow until mid-January, I hope you wake up to see that shining snowfall sweeping over your neighbors’ rooftops or sparkling across your yard. I hope you take a moment to press your nose up against the glass, yell, “It snowed!”, and drink a cup of hot chocolate – don’t forget those marshmallows. Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
