After a long regular season followed by an intense round of playoff games, NCAA football finally made it to the 2025 National Championship happening on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025. With the final four being the University of Texas, Penn State, The Ohio State University, and Notre Dame, the final two teams going head to head are OSU and Notre Dame.
At the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9, Penn State played Notre Dame for the spot in the final game. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, Penn State Quarterback threw an interception to Notre Dame Cornerback Christian Gray, followed with a field goal by Notre Dame Kicker Mitch Jeter to secure the win of 27-24 over Penn State.
On wndu.com in an article titled “Notre Dame fans ecstatic after Orange Bowl win, excited for national championship”, Author Emma Bratt wrote that Notre Dame fan Ryan Sohn stated,“I don’t know, this season feels special. Especially on that winning streak we’ve been on. I don’t see a stop to that coming anytime soon. And yeah, I’m really confident in Notre Dame and their ability to take home the championship title.”
Following the Orange Bowl, on Jan. 10, Texas went against OSU for the championship spot. Towards the end of the fourth quarter, Texas was about to tie the game with a touchdown at the 1-yard line, when OSU Defensive End Jack Sawyer forced a fumble followed by an 82-yard defensive rushing touchdown. This play secured the win over Texas with a score of 28-14.
When RHS Staff Member Mrs. Harrison was asked about her personal experience seeing the Cotton Bowl in person, she stated,“The Cotton Bowl was great because of the experience and how tough the game was and the excitement everybody was getting.”
Harrison stated,“I think we are going to beat Notre Dame. I have confidence in my team that they are gonna win.”
Overall, the competition between these two teams for the national title is going to be fun to watch. With Notre Dame having a season record of 14-1 and OSU with 13-2, it is most likely going to be very close in scores. The game will be streaming on ESPN, Youtube TV, and it is being held at the Mercedes Benz stadium in Atlanta, GA.
