As everyone knows, Feb. 9 is when the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles go head to head for the Superbowl LIX title. This is the second time these two teams have played each other within three years in the Superbowl, with the Chiefs winning with a score of 38-35 over the Eagles.
On Jan. 26, 2025, the Eagles secured a spot in Super Bowl LIX by beating the underdog Washington Commanders. Throughout the whole game, the Eagles led in score with 14-3 in the first quarter, 27-15 in the second, 39-23 in the third, and then ended with a final score of 55-23.
On Jan. 26, 2025, the Buffalo Bills suffered a close loss to the Chiefs. On a fourth and five, Josh Allen and the Bills were pressured to go for it, and Kansas City sent an unexpecting blitz using Trent McDuffie, forcing Josh Allen to launch the ball downfield which unfortunately resulted in a failed fourth down conversion, which gave the ball to the Chiefs in the final seconds. They were eventually in the red zone, and broke the intense tie with a final score of 32-29.
In a poll taken about who is going to win the Superbowl LIX title, 11 students and six staff predicted for the Philadelphia Eagles to win, while about five students and two staff members predicted for the Kansas City Chiefs to win, for a third-year in a row.
RHS Spanish Teacher Mrs. Gardner stated, “I believe that the Chiefs will win, they have Taylor Swift by their side son .”
RHS Math Teacher Mrs. Harrison stated, “Hopefully not the Chiefs, they have won the Super Bowl twice in a row now, and everyone wants to see that change.”
Throughout the entirety of the regular season, both of the remaining teams had great finishing records with 14-3 for the Eagles and 15-2 for the Chiefs. According to the poll results, there are many people who are rooting for the Eagles to win so Kansas City doesn’t have a three-peat season.
UPDATE:
After an egregious first half from Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs totaled a whopping 33 yards in the air, and threw two interceptions (one of which was returned for six by Eagles Cornerback Cooper DeJean) Kansas City was down 24-0 at the half. And although the final score says 22-40, it does not do justice for the Eagles.
The Eagle’s defensive line had seven sacks. To make it even more impressive, they sent no blitzes, proving their dominance throughout the game. With eight minutes left on the clock, the Eagles kicked a field goal to up the score 40-6.
Mahomes threw two touchdowns in the last 6 minutes which did little to help their cause. Jalen Hurts broke the rushing record by a quarterback with 72 rushing yards, previously 70, set by him in ‘23.
The Eagles stopped the three-peat, dominated the Chiefs, and won Super Bowl LIX.
