Many students have special qualities—some with voices of excellence, others with great minds, and many with their athletic abilities. However, one student in particular stands out. Why? Not only was he loved by so many that they chose him as part of the Homecoming court, but he was also elected as the Homecoming King and alongside him, the one and only, Stephanie Gottlieb.
When interviewing Reid, it turned out that he participates in not only Jazz, but also Pep, Concert, and Marching Band. Notably, Reid plays two instruments, the French horn and piano. When asked how he got into the Band in the first place, he answered. “ Well, my parents got me into Piano lessons, and from then I have just liked it,” while adding that he played “French horn, I started in 8th grade and then Piano I started around 2nd grade.”
Although Reid’s portfolio may look great, he states, “Sometimes when you’re practicing, you kinda get mad at yourself cause you’re not doing that good” which is a journey that many people may gloss over, however, Reid’s determination of “doing something that you [I] like doing and seeing progress” made him keep going.
Like everyone, Reid also has his inspiration from something or someone, that being, “YouTube videos on pieces that I’m going to play [like] in the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra.” and his private lesson teacher whom he’s been close to since 8th grade whom he not only is grateful for but also thankful for not giving up on him
Like everyone, Reid also has his inspiration from something or someone, that being his private lesson teacher whom he’s been close to since 8th grade. Reid explains that a lot of people would tell him, “It’s okay if you do not make it” or “It’s okay if you don’t get what you want” but his private lesson teacher never gave up on him, she had always encouraged him, cheering on, “You’re going to do good. You’re going to do great.”
Moving away from the topic of Band, Reid had first done choir since first grade at Elda, being a part of the Elda Ensemble. When asked what made him join the Choir, he explains, “I think I like singing ’cause my mom sang all the time,” adding, “She’s a great singer.”
Lastly, when asked what he would change in his life, he answered, “Probably have practiced more in Freshman year, Sophomore year, [Junior year I practiced more.] Especially in the summer.”
Recently, Reid auditioned for, The University of Michigan, desiring to major in French Horn Performance and Orchestra. Although Reid was nervous during his audition, he quickly overcame his nerves by simply imagining himself practicing as usual as any other day. So, when the time comes, be sure to wish Reid luck, or not since that’d be like storing a gold coin in a chest filled with them.
