    BTS: The Homecoming Dance

On Saturday, October 7th, 2023 the Ross High School Student Body gathered for the annual Homecoming dance. This year’s theme was “Home Sweet Homecoming” and decorations consisted of handmade candy props like lollipops and candy necklace ropes. Many students remarked on how much decorations had improved since last year and how much they appreciated the cookies and water offered. All thanks are due to Mrs Hudak (HK) and her amazing Student Council members.

The Student Council were the first ones to the high school on Saturday as they showed up at nine am and stayed until eleven decorating and organizing everything for the dance that night. Everyone there was greeted by donuts and then immediately jumped into their various tasks. Below, you can see Sam Davidson, Dylan Pence, and Siera Loudermilk helping to fill up the homemade gumball machine with the gumball balloons. When asked what she thought brought all of the improvements to the dance, the Student Body Secretary Aubrey Rettig said, “I think with HK being in charge now, everything is bigger and better because that’s just HK!” Both Aubrey and the Junior class treasurer Jennah Huff said that the student council had been planning the dance since their first meeting way back in early August. Rettig added, “I’m really excited for [this dance] because it’s starting to look really, really cool…I wasn’t involved in the planning of the theme but I did get to help with everything else.”

We asked many Student Council members what inspiration was taken from past dances. Rettig claimed the most obvious was the refreshments, “I think we took inspiration from prom for [the snacks] because that’s a thing we usually have at prom. … I think it’s a good idea. I know I ate food at prom.” Along with the refreshments added, there was also a photo wall for attendees to take pictures with their friends and dates. All of the Student Council members we spoke to said that hanging out with friends is what makes homecoming so enjoyable and these additions helped them do just that. We can probably all agree, the homecoming dance was a smash hit and we can’t wait to see what events the Student Council has in store for the rest of the year!
