Has the Michigan V Ohio State rivalry gone to far?

Has the Michigan V Ohio State rivalry gone to far?

Ohio State and Michigan face off Saturday Nov 25, 2023 to end with a score of 30-24 (Michigan). Being the biggest game of the year for fans, many incidents break out.

For many fans of the two teams this is the biggest game of the year and most get pretty pumped up, planning parties and full meals to enjoy while the teams play. But this has also gotten out of hand over the past years.

Starting back in the 1970s college football began. But no other game will compare to this one. Every year THE game determines legacies of players that date back years. This year (2023) has been the third consecutive year the Wolverines have beat the Buckeyes.

Jim Harbaugh, coach of Michigan was interviewed Monday about how he feels about the two teams/fans and if he believes the rivalry really has gotten out of hand. “I think that is very manufactured for the TV show that people want to watch and see,” Harbaugh quotes. “It’s not healthy for the student-athletes on either side when you’re trying to put that much pressure on them.”

Every year both teams have more and more competition and suspense on who will win and if there will be a new “Champion” this year”. This is part of the reason people are thinking it’s getting out of hand. More and more fights and disagreements are breaking out between fans every year because of how competitive the games are getting.

Ohio State fans especially are extremely unhappy being that they have not won in three years. Michigan and Ohio State fans battle eachother 365 days a year and never turn down a chance to argue about the topic or confess the love they have for their team. “This year I plan to take the rivalry a bit less seriously.” Harbaugh stated. The complete opposite back in 2021 when he quoted “To win the Big Ten or die trying.”

It doesn’t matter what is at stake, the rivalry between these two teams is always going to matter to people. Starting next season it may feel more like a game and not just “Life or Death”, either way maybe it’s not such a bad thing.
