On Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, the Ross Show Choir Program hosted its first-ever Harvest Festival Pancake Breakfast as a fundraising event at Ross High School.
Guests ate delicious pancakes, made by parent volunteers, while listening to student solos or small groups in the high school’s cafeteria. Visitors were also encouraged to check out the auditorium where the middle school and high school show choirs performed a few numbers from their shows. These performances were held with hope of increasing the audience’s suspense and desire for the upcoming season!
When asked if he thought the pancake breakfast managed to bring attention to the choirs, junior Alex Johnson, a singer/dancer from Ross Legacy, agreed and explained that he “…had multiple people come up to [him] and [say] this upcoming year was going to be great.”
The show choir performances were held at the start of every hour. The pancake breakfast was held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., so there were three performances from each show choir.
Senior Jordan Reid was a guest at the pancake breakfast. He stated, “I went to the first showcase. I watched both Next Generation and Legacy. They were so amusing to watch.”
Choir Director Hallie Thompson stated that the goal of the pancake breakfast was “…to provide Next Generation and Legacy the opportunity to perform their shows earlier in the season.” She also stated, “This event allowed them the chance to practice performing for a live audience and help simulate what a real competition might feel like.”
Thompson revealed that she “…would definitely say that Harvest Gathering was a success this year.” She explains that “[they] are always looking for ways to allow the community to see what [they] are up to and [she feels they] accomplished that! [She] also saw a big improvement in both groups as the day went on. [She thinks] it was an eye-opener for our new members and gave them a better idea of what to expect in January!”
The breakfast attracted around 250-300 people and raised an estimated $1,500 for the Ross Show Choir Program. The students, volunteers, and staff involved would like to extend their gratitude toward anyone who took their time to visit!
