![Athletes of the Week: How Are They Chosen?](https://rosshightimes.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/02/Screenshot-2025-02-10-12.09.38-PM.png)
Each week the Ross High School athletic coaches nominate an athlete for “Athlete of the Week” based on their outstanding performance and sportsmanship, and the RHS Athletic Department chooses two athletes to receive the award.
One student who was selected this week was Senior Stephanie Gottlieb. Gottlieb is a member of the RHS Varsity Cheer Team and was nominated by the head coach Shanin Varner.
Gottlieb shared that she felt nervous when she was first called down to the office because she was unsure why her coaches wanted to see her. She explains, “…but when I walked in, they were just like, ‘You were chosen for Cheerleader of the Week!’ And I was like, ‘Oh! Well, at least I’m not in trouble. Perfect!’ And it was a pleasant surprise.”
“Athlete of the Week” is not exclusive to only seniors, as the purpose of the award is to congratulate RHS student-athletes for their exemplary behavior, hard work, and dedication to their sport.
The other student awarded this week was RHS Sophomore Timothy Pfirrman, a member of the RHS Boys’ Swim Team. The RHS Swim Coach Joe Stewart nominated Pfirrman due to his great work ethic and his positive attitude during their swim meets.
Awarding athletes for their consistent work ethic and team spirit is a positive and effective way to convince them to continue their good behaviors. The award can also motivate other athletes to want to work harder so they can be honored with this title in the future.
We are very proud of our Ram athletes and are happy to award them with “Athlete of the Week”.
